The Hood Poet: Scarfo Da Plug’s Success, Music, and Growing Up In Poverty

Growing up as a black male in America can be a traumatizing experience in itself, but to also face the challenges of poverty and injustice can make life seem simply unfair. Leaving a young boy to constantly search for a way out. Atlanta rapper Scarfo Da Plug uses his platform to shed light on the parts of America the world chooses to ignore. Just because a story isn't beautiful doesn't mean it shouldn't be told.

At 22 years old, Scarfo faces 9 felony convictions and has used music as his way to paint his reality to the world. His unfiltered body of work cries the tears of black men in America, speaking on the hardships of growing up in the ghetto and also the resentment they feel toward law enforcement. His music aims to give guidance to those in the same position and give advice on how to succeed and beat the system. He does not only glorify the perks of the lifestyle he has lived but shares the consequences and sacrifices that come with the discussions he has made along the way.

Inspired by other hood poets such as Peewee Longway, Bankroll Fresh, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, and Future; Scarfo has aspirations to become a legendary rap Artist and household industry name. His upcoming project “Trap Jesus”, sets out to keep the trap music alive. As many of its pioneers have passed away or have become vets in the industry he finds it his purpose to keep the streets alive through his music. The hood needs a voice and it is his goal to always remain that for those who need it.
